Voyager 2 false color image of Saturn taken from 43 million km. This image was taken over a month before closest approach to Saturn, which took place on 25 August 1981. Changes from the earlier Voyager 1 encounter (in November, 1980) were noticed in Saturn's atmosphere even at this distance. Saturn is 120,000 km in diameter at the equator, and the rings are about 280,000 km in diameter. North is at 1:30. (Voyager 2, P-23880c)
