Image of Neptune taken from 35 million km on August 1, 1989 as Voyager 2 approached the planet. This color image was produced using the clear, violet, and orange filters. The Great Dark Spot is at 25 degrees south latitude, and the south pole is towards the bottom of the disk. The spot and bright clouds are moving eastward. Neptune is 49,000 km in diameter.
