Neptune - Voyager 2

Composite polar projection of the southern hemisphere of Neptune

Neptune
Five Voyager 2 images were used to produce a polar projection of Neptune's southern hemisphere. The images were taken over one Neptunian day (about 18 hours). The image is centered at the south pole and extends to about 15 degrees north latitude. The Great Dark Spot and its trailing bright clouds can be seen at 25 degrees south latitude, about 28,000 km from the pole. This image was produced using clear, orange, and green filters at a distance of about 30 million miles. (Voyager 2, P-34628)
