Viking 2 Orbiter image of polar valleys near the north pole of
Mars. Within these valleys are exposed laminated polar
deposits. "Laminated beds, analogous to geological strata on Earth, are exposed with in these valleys." This image is 65 km across. North is at ~10:30.
