Mercury - Mariner 10

The Discovery Scarp (Discovery Rupes) on Mercury.

Mosaic of four Mariner 10 images of the Discovery scarp (Discovery Rupes) on Mercury. The scarp is almost 500 km long, and the relief across it is up to 1 km. The scarp cuts through the 50 km diameter Rameau crater, centered at 54 S, 38 W towards the bottom of the image. The scarp is believed to be a result of large scale compression. These images are from the third flyby. North is at 11:00. (Mariner 10, Atlas of Mercury, Fig. 11-27)
