Eros - NEAR

Close-up of Eros

Eros
This image of asteroid 433 Eros was taken by NEAR Shoemaker from orbit on 6 August 2000 from an altitude of 49 kilometers. It is near sunset at this point on the asteroid, the oblique illumination exaggerates the surface features. A number of large boulders can be seen on the surface, the brightest to the upper right of the crater at the bottom of the image is about 30 meters across. The frame is about 2.2 km across.
