Eros - NEAR

Mosaic of Eros

Eros
This mosaic was made from images of near Earth asteroid 433 Eros taken from orbit at a distance of about 100 km. The knobs sticking out of the surface near the top of the image are probably remnants of ancient impact craters. The very faint grooves that run diagonally across the surface in this image may have formed during a collision between the asteroid and a smaller body. The mosaic was made from images 0143581726, 0143581602, 0143581788, and 0143581664. Eros is about 33 x 13 x 13 km in size. (NEAR Eros 0143581726_mos)
