Eros - NEAR

Mosaic of one of the long ends of Eros

Eros
This mosaic of two images shows one of the ends of asteroid 433 Eros. The images were taken on 16 September 2000 from orbit 100 km above Eros. Note how the area is very smooth compared to other parts of Eros, and most of the craters have been degraded. A few large boulders are visible by their shadows, and one large feature can be seen protruding over the horizon near the top center of the image. This is a mosaic of images 144528837 and 144528713. 433 Eros is about 33 x 13 x 13 km in size. (NEAR Eros 0144528837_mos)
