This montage of nine images of asteroid 433 Eros were taken by the NEAR spacecraft as it approached on 23 December 1998. The images were taken from 15:44 UT at a distance of 11,100 km to 17:44 UT at a distance of 5300 km. Over the two hour period Eros completed nearly half of its 5.27 hour rotation. The resolution is about 500 m for the closest images. Eros is an S-class asteroid estimated to be 33 x 13 x 13 km in size. (NEAR Eros 199812231544-9)
