Mission Name: Galileo OrbiterThis interdisciplinary scientist (IDS) investigation examined data from the remote sensing photopolarimeter-radiometer (PPR) and infrared (NIMS) experiments on the orbiter and from the in situ observations obtained by the atmospheric structure (ASI), composition (NMS and HAD), nephelometer (NEP), and net-flux radiometer (NFR) experiments on the probe. The objectives were to: (1) analyze the radiative equilibrium of the Jovian upper troposphere and stratosphere; and, (2) assess the ability of remote sensing devices used on similar missions to accurately determine atmospheric conditions.
