Mission Name: Phoenix Mars LanderThe Surface Stereo Imager (SSI) is designed to obtain three dimensional images of the martian surface and atmosphere in multiple wavelengths in the optical and infrared. The SSI consists of two cameras mounted on a mast two meters above the surface. It has 12 different optical and infrared filters covering wavelengths of geologic and atmospheric interest. The cameras are CCD type and will produce 1024 x 1024 pixel images. The camera will be used for long range stereo views and close-up views for geologic and other investigations, optical studies of the martian atmosphere, support of robotic arm operations, and surveys of the lander itself.
