Mission Name: Chang'e 1The laser altimeter system is designed to measure the altitude of the spacecraft over the nadir point on the surface in order to produce topographic models. The system consists of a laser transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter emits 150 mJ laser pulses at a wavelength of 1064 nm. The receiver consists of a telescope, detector, and timing apparatus to detect the reflected pulse.
