Cosmos 348 was a joint experiment of Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany, Poland, Rumania, the Soviet Union, and Czechoslovakia. As a continuation of the mission begun by Cosmos 261, this spacecraft investigated the upper layers of the earth's atmosphere, auroral displays, and magnetic storms. Cosmos 348 was launched in the summer instead of the winter and carried highly sensitive instrumentation.
