PANAMSAT 8 was an American geosynchronous communications spacecraft. It carries 24 C-band and 24 Ku-band transponders to provide digital television channels after parking over 166 degrees E longitude. It was based on the Space Systems/Loral three-axis, body-FS-1300 bus, whose modular design has proven its worth during some 275 years of cumulative on-orbit service. Solar arrays and nickel-hydrogen batteries provided uninterrupted electrical power.
