Navid, an Iranian earth observation satellite, was launched from Semnan on 03 February 2012. The microsatellite weighed 50 kg and was launched by a Safir rocket. Navid, also known as Navid-e Elm-o Sanat, carries a camera with the ability to photograph from low altitudes of about 250-375 km from Earth. It is intended for high-precision imagery of Earth and will collect weather data and monitor natural disasters. It is the largest and heaviest spacecraft orbited by Iran to date.
