This sub-payload would have been ejected from FIRE-A, and carried diagnostic instruments for observation of the ion releases in the night magnetosphere. Telemetry was 4096 bps at 136.26 MHz. The spacecraft was battery-operated, with a lifetime of less than 48 hours. An antenna with approximately 42 m tip-to-tip would have been deployed.
