Digital Archive Directions (DADs) Workshop

DATE: June 22-26, 1998

HOST: The National Archives and Records Administration
Archives II
8601 Adelphi Road
College Park, MD 20740-6001

Attendance at the first section of the DADs workshop, i.e., the Tutorial and Presentation Section (June 22-23, 1998) will be open. Attendance at the second workshop section of the DADs workshop, i.e., the Workgroup Section (June 24-26, 1998), will be limited to those contributors whose position paper is selected by the DADs Workshop Program Committee. Position Papers for the DADs Workshop must be received by June 8, 1998, in order to be eligible to attend the Workshop. Notification of selection to attend will be via email on May 20, 1998 if the Position Paper was received prior to May 13, 1998. If the Position Paper was received after May 13, 1998, notification will be given one week after the Position Paper is received by the DADs Program Committee.

A position paper should address a digital archive topic which you believe would benefit the digital archive community. A position paper, for example, may be a statement of your organizationís needs which could benefit from standards in a particular area relating to digital archives; a standardization proposal for a current local standard or convention; or a developed, ongoing or completed effort regarding a potentially global digital archive need, for example, a best practice.

Contributions may be submitted using the Web Submission Form for Position Papers.

Alternatively you may provide your contribution via email to the Workshop Program Committee at DADs-workshop@nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov. All email submissions must be in ASCII text or Word 6.0 and they must follow the Email Submission Format.

The person, organization, or group initiating a position paper on a particular topic must provide, in as complete a manner as possible and practicable, the information in Submission Sections 1 and 2 of this format. At the workshop, it is intended that work groups will review each Position Paper and add the Standardardization Project Considerations submission sections to it.

The Program Committee will review your contribution(s), and select topics for discussion at the workshop according to the following criteria:

  • The submission is understandable and complete;
  • The need for the standard is evident;
  • The relationship to the Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System is explicit.

The time and effort expended in the preparation of a well-researched and well-documented proposal will generally accelerate realization of the standards development desired.

Contributors of proposals will be notified of their acceptance to participate in the Workshop by email on May 20, 1998 if the Position Paper was received prior to May 13, 1998. If the Position Paper was received after May 13, 1998, notification will be given one week after the Position Paper is received by the DADs Program Committee.
