NASA Space Science Data Coordinated Archive

Charge and Service Policy

The purpose of the NASA Space Science Data Coordinated Archive (NSSDCA) is to provide data and information from space flight experiments for studies beyond those performed by the principal investigators. These services are available to foreign requesters through the World Data Center for Satellite Information (WDC-SI, formerly WDC-A R&S). Normally, a charge is made to cover the cost of reproducing and processing the requested data. However, as resources permit, the NSSDCA director may waive the charge for modest amounts of data to NASA-funded researchers when the data will be used for NASA-funded research. For CD-ROMs this waiver is limited to 20 CD-ROMs per calendar year.

Details on the charges associated with different media are available for both photographic and non-photographic media.

Photographic Media

Questions about ordering reproductions of photographic media as well as the pricing thereof should be directed to the NSSDCA Coordinated Request and User Support Office (CRUSO).

Non-Photographic Media

Digital data, along with some video tapes, are available via e-mail request to the NSSDCA Coordinated Request and User Support Office (CRUSO). Products are charged according to the following table.

Item Cost per Unit
CD-ROM $10
CD-ROM software on media $5
9-track tapes $57
8 mm tapes $68
4 mm tapes $66
FTP staging $24
Other media (e.g., CD-WO, video tape) Case by case

The prices above are for routine requests where the data source can be readily identified.

If staff support is required, the requestor will be billed at an hourly rate of $75 for higher level support (scientist or computer analyst time) and/or $35 for lower level support (data technician time). The requestor will be provided a cost estimate at the time of the request and will not be billed until the request is filled.

There is an additional $5.00 fee for shipping of orders outside of the U.S.

Please make all checks or money orders payable (in US Dollars) on a US bank to: ADNET Systems, Inc. Payment is also accepted by VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. Please provide us with the account number and expiration data when placing an order.

Further information can be obtained from NSSDCA's Coordinated Request and User Support Office (CRUSO).
