A new tool, CDFexport, has been added to the Common Data Format (CDF) distribution and released for beta testing. CDFexport allows the contents of a CDF to be exported to the screen, a flat file, or a CDF in a variety formats (i.e., ASCII, binary). The CDFexport utility will eventually replace the CDFlist utility in the overall CDF Toolkit.
In addition, the use of virtual memory running under Microsoft C 7.0 has been added. The virtual memory makes use of IBM PC's extended and/or expanded memory (for DOS). Using virtual memory for the cache frees conventional memory allowing larger hyper reads and writes. Environment variables are used to control if and how virtual memory is used.
The CDF staff is currently in the process of designing and developing CDF Version 2.6. Version 2.6 will contain compression and is expected to be released for beta testing early next year.
