Report on 1999 NSSDC Highlights and Statistics Available

The NSSDC 1999 Annual Report is now Web-accessible at http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nssdc/annual/1999/. This report summarizes the highlights of NSSDC's 1999 activities and achievements. It also presents statistics on the state of NSSDC's archive at the end of 1999 as well as NSSDC's 1999 data inflows and outflows. Some of the more noteworthy facts follow.

As of December 31, 1999, NSSDC held 18.6 TB of data distributed over 2,417 digital data sets. In all, NSSDC held a total of 4,556 digital plus non-digital (film, etc.) data sets from 1,406 experiments that flew on 420 spacecraft. Over 3 TB of primarily space physics and astrophysics data were electronically accessible from NSSDC's on-line and near-line systems.

During 1999 NSSDC added over 2.8 TB of data to its archive. Over two million data files were downloaded by NSSDC customers. Over 7,000 CD-ROMs were distributed via the U.S. mail.
