More IMP, DE, ISIS, IMAGE Data FTP-Accessible
Continuing ingestion of data through NSSDCs DIOnAS system described in detail earlier (http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nssdc_news/dec00/dec00_toc.html) has led, since the last newsletter issue, to the FTP accessibility at ftp://nssdcftp.gsfc.nasa.gov/spacecraft_data/ of several data sets either in their entireties or as extensions of data already available.
For IMP, we have extended the 20-sec resolution JHU/APL-created Merge data set consisting of APL energetic particle data (CPME and EPE), GSFC magnetometer data and MIT plasma data to the end of 2000. (Unfortunately, the magnetometer failed June 10, 2000, so its data in the Merge set only run to this point.) We have also extended the 11-minute resolution University of Maryland particle data set to July 2000.
For Dynamics Explorer (DE), we have moved several DE-1 (high altitude; 1981-1991) and DE-2 (low altitude; 1981-1983) data sets from NDADS to nssdcftp including: DE-1 SAI (University of Iowa) auroral images in daily CDFs, 62-ms binary and 6-s ASCII data from the GSFC magnetometer, and University Iowa plasma wave data; DE-2 62-ms binary data from the GSFC magnetometer, 1/2-sec merged electric and magnetic field data in ASCII plus a higher resolution merged set in binary, and 2-sec ASCII neutral gas density, temperature and wind speed values from the GSFC WATS instrument. These data sets cover various time spans within the overall spacecraft lives. Also available at nssdcftp are DE-2 unified abstract aeronomy data. Additional DE data on NDADS remain to be moved; see http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/space/ndads/spycat.html.
The migration of ISIS 2 digitized ionogram data from NDADS through DIOnAS has been virtually completed, and the direct ingestion of equivalent ISIS 1 data is now underway. (The ISIS 1 data do not pass through NDADS.)
The direct ingestion of IMAGE UDF (Universal Data Format) data through DIOnAS is also underway. Note the separate article about this flow and about the higher functionalty IMAGE Archive client-server software in this newsletter issue.
