Planetary Education CD-ROM Sales Brisk
Volume 11, Number 2, June 1995
By David Williams
The Planetary Data System (PDS) "Welcome to the Planets" educational CD-ROMs continue to sell like proverbial hotcakes. Since the CD first arrived at NSSDC in January 1995, well over 700 copies have been sold. The multimedia CD contains almost 200 images of planets, moons, spacecraft, and other solar system objects along with captions and information. The original stand-alone version could be used only on Macintosh computers, although it also had a multi-platform HTML version. A new version that works on DOS Windows machines is now available. (A further update, including a curriculum guide for educators, will be completed within a few months.) The charge for these CDs is $6.00 each, plus a $30.00 request processing fee per order, and a $5.00 shipping fee for foreign orders.
