New Planetary Data and WWW Pages Available

Volume 12, Number 1, March 1996
by David Williams

Many new planetary data have been received at NSSDC and made available over the last six months. These include the final two CD-ROM volumes of the International Halley Watch Series, Volumes 25 and 26 , containing spacecraft data and images for comets P/Halley and P/Giacobini-Zinner. More Magellan F-MAP CD-ROMs have come in, bringing the total as of February 16, 1996, to 85 volumes or exactly half the total collection to be produced. When complete, this set will contain full resolution radar images of Venus covering over 90% of the planet's surface. A Magellan gravimetry CD-ROM is also available, containing the line-of-sight acceleration profile data records (LOSAPDR). Galileo CD-ROM Volume 16 has arrived. This volume contains all images from Galileo's encounter with asteroid Ida and images of Jupiter during the SL-9 comet impact. The first two volumes of the new Voyager CD-ROMs containing images of Saturn have come in. In addition, a new version of the Planetary Data System (PDS) Welcome to the Planets is now available. This Version 1.5 contains a Teacher's Curriculum Guide to aid in using the information and images on the CD-ROM.

A number of new planetary pages have been created recently on the World Wide Web (WWW). New mission pages include Stardust , Venera , and Mars Surveyor '98 Orbiter and Lander . Mars Global Surveyor Experiment information has also been added. A new page providing links to all the NASA Field Centers is now up as well as pages on Comet Hale-Bopp and Comet Hyakutake . Additionally, extensive updates have been done on the Chiron pages , the planetary fact sheets , the Galileo Probe entry , the planetary CD-ROM catalog pages , and the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft pages . Future plans include pages on NASA off-line resources, NSSDC educational resources, and the Russian Mars '96 mission as well as new additions to the planetary fact sheets and the Chiron perihelion campaign pages.
