NSSDC carries and distributes over 250 unique CD-ROMs (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory). Most of the data on these CD-ROMs are planetary imagery from such projects as Galileo, Magellan, Viking, and Voyager. However, NSSDC also has astrophysics X-ray and infrared data from the Einstein Observatory, ROSAT, and IRAS projects. A few select discs contain non-image solar and space physics data. The entire collection is available for browsing in the NSSDC Browse Facility. A free CD-ROM catalog, which gives brief descriptions of each CD-ROM data set and also provides ordering information, is available upon request from NSSDC. (NSSDC's CD-ROMs are accompanied by software that is compatible with both PC and Macintosh platforms.)
NSSDC, in addition to providing data on CD-ROM, is involved in a large-scale effort to make much of its data available electronically. Several selected sample images from the NSSDC CD-ROM collection are available via anonymous FTP from NSSDCA.GSFC.NASA.GOV in the CD-ROM directory. NSSDC is also maintaining several pages on the World Wide Web using Mosaic. From the NSSDC home page, one may access various science discipline pages and other services. For instance, one may browse through the NSSDC CD-ROM catalog, which is accessible through the NSSDC home page. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the NSSDC home page is http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/. NSSDC is also constructing a space science education home page at http://bolero.gsfc.nasa.gov/education/education_home.html.
