Sycamore Shoals State Park Tree

Elizabethton, Tennessee

[Sycamore Shoals Moon Tree] [Sycamore Shoals Moon Tree]

Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) planted at Sycamore Shoals State Park, Elizabethton, in Carter County, Tennessee. The tree was planted in April, 1976, inside Fort Watauga, an early settlement fort. The tree was cut down due to ant and bug infestations sometime before November 2019 (see picture of remaining stump below). Reportedly saplings/seeds from this tree were sent to the University of Tennessee to grow into more 2nd generation Moon Trees.
