A
Virtual Tour of Mars
Cratered
terrain to the southeast of Valles Marineris. The southern hemisphere of Mars
is far older and more heavily cratered than the northern hemisphere. The southern
hemisphere is often referred to as the highlands as it is in fact higher in
elevation than most of the northern hemisphere.
