Hiten was an ISAS (Japan) mission which orbited the Earth in a highly eccentric orbit which brought it by the Moon. On its first lunar flyby it dropped the probe Hagoromo into lunar orbit, making Japan the third nation with a lunar orbiter. Hiten was intentionally hard-landed on the Moon on 10 April 1993.
