Colour Image of Jupiter, July 14th 1994

This images was constructed from three images of the 
planet made with the Bochum 60cm telescope on La Silla. 
They were combined to yield a "true colour" view of 
Jupiter. This image shows the satellite Europa crossing 
the disc of the planet and also the famous great red spot. 

The observers were Carsenty and Mottola and they were 
using a DLR CCD imaging system. Each image is a composite 
of about 5 one second exposures. Three near-IR filters 
were used, centred at 727nm,750nm and 893nm respectively 
so the colour is not really "true".
