The Structuring of Data Products Directories Associated to Application Services at INPE/Brazil

The Activity  of Application  Services in  Space  Missions  at  the
National Institute  in Space  Research (INPE)  in Brazil  is, among other
aspects, identifying  and characterizing the main disciplines and related
data base  authorities in  two of  its main  application areas, which are
eligible for  electronic metadata  and data  products exchange. These two
main areas  are of:  1) Space  and Atmospheric  Sciences, and;  2)  Earth
Observation. Such  a work  is  being  carried  out  in  a  way  that,  in
principle,  may   guarantee  easier,   future  adherence   of   INPE   to
recommendations being  proposed by  CCSDS and CEOS Committee bodies, 
on a gradual basis.  It is  already evident  that, by  far, such  an extensive
objective has,  initially,  to  emphasize  the  structuring  of  metadata
related  products  which,  in  principle,  demand  modest  bandwidths  in
electronic communication channels. The basic methodology being adopted in
the structuring  of the  related Application  Services, with  emphasis to
metadata or directory related products is presented in this contribution.
