The Activity of Application Services in Space Missions at the
National Institute in Space Research (INPE) in Brazil is, among other
aspects, identifying and characterizing the main disciplines and related
data base authorities in two of its main application areas, which are
eligible for electronic metadata and data products exchange. These two
main areas are of: 1) Space and Atmospheric Sciences, and; 2) Earth
Observation. Such a work is being carried out in a way that, in
principle, may guarantee easier, future adherence of INPE to
recommendations being proposed by CCSDS and CEOS Committee bodies,
on a gradual basis. It is already evident that, by far, such an extensive
objective has, initially, to emphasize the structuring of metadata
related products which, in principle, demand modest bandwidths in
electronic communication channels. The basic methodology being adopted in
the structuring of the related Application Services, with emphasis to
metadata or directory related products is presented in this contribution.
