INFORMATION FOR ATTENDEES


LOCATION

The Science Information Systems Interoperability Conference will be held at the University of Maryland, University College Conference Center from November 6-9, 1995. The Conference Center is located on the edge of the University of Maryland College Park Campus at University Boulevard andAdelphi Road in College Park, MD. All presentation sessions will be held in the Conference Center's Auditorium and the exhibit session will be located across the hall in the Chesapeake room (see SISIC agenda).

TRANSPORTATION

The University of Maryland is located approximately 15 miles from Washington, D.C. It is served by the Baltimore-Washington International (BWI), Dulles International and Washington National Airports. The BWI Airport is located approximately 30 minutes from the Conference Center and is the most convenient airport. The Washington National Airport is approximately 45 minutes and the Dulles International Airport is approximately one hour from the Conference Center.

Transportation between BWI and Hotels:
There is a BWI Super Shuttle, (800) 809-7080, which is located at the corner of Greenbelt Road and the Baltimore Washington Parkway. It costs $11 (one way) and leaves every hour on the half hour beginning at 5:30 a.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. You need to make reservations for this service. It takes 30 minutes to get to the airport. They can also pick you up from a hotel in the University of Maryland area for $17 (one way), per person and $5.00 for each additional person. This service will pick you up 1 1/2 - 2 hours before your flight takes off and gets you to the airport 1 hour before your flight leaves.

Taxi service between the airport and a hotel will cost approximately $30.00. Participants can call BWI limo service at (301) 441-2345 for additional information.

Transportation Between Washington National or Dulles Airport and Hotels:
If arriving at either National or Dulles Airport, the most direct mode of transportation to the College Park, MD area is taxi. The taxi fare from Washington National Airport to the College Park area is approximately $30.00. The taxi fare from Dulles Airport to the College Park area is approximately $55.00 - $60.00.

Premiere Travel is the official travel agency for the Conference. If you would like assistance with airline reservations, please contact Marie Duggan of Premiere Travel at (703) 893-2288 or call the toll-free number at (800) 458-8670. After 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time) call the Premiere Travel Hotline at (800) 343-5032. Reservations for rental cars can also be arranged when booking airline tickets through Premiere Travel. When making reservations please mention that you are coming for the SISIC.

I-95 South to Capital Beltway (495) to College Park
Take US 1 South (Exit 25)
Proceed approx. 1 mile south on US 1
Turn right on 193 West (University Blvd.)

Take Beltway West toward College Park

From Annapolis and Points East:

Route 50 to Capital Beltway (I-95)
Proceed on I-95 North to College Park

At 3rd traffic light (Adelphi Road) make "U" turn
Turn right into parking garage

From Washington, DC:

New Hampshire Avenue (650 North)
Right at light on 193 East (University Blvd.)
At 6th light, cross Adelphi Road
Turn right into parking garage

From Montgomery County and Points West:

Capital Beltway (495)
Take New Hampshire Avenue/Takoma Park (650 South)
At 2nd light, make a left on Adelphi Road
At 3rd light, make a left on University Blvd.
Turn right into parking garage

PARKING

It is recommended that participants driving to the Conference park in the garage adjacent to the Conference Center. There is no additional public parking nearby. When you enter the garage and park, note the parking space number that you are in. Proceed to the automated pay station and enter your parking space number. Parking is $4.00 for 8 hours or $.25 for each half hour. The pay station will accept quarters, nickels, dimes, and one dollar bills only, but does not give change. Insert the correct change and press the green button to receive a receipt.

METRO INFORMATION

The University of Maryland can be reached from the green line's Greenbelt stop. The University of Maryland Conference Center is approximately two miles from this stop. From the Metro stop there is a College Park Metro bus, which is free and runs every 20 minutes. The bus will take you to the student union. From there the Conference Center is a ten minute walk.

HOTEL INFORMATION

Limited lodging facilities are available at the University of Maryland Conference Center. Jorge Scientific Corporation (JSC) has reserved a block of rooms for the Conference. The room rate, including tax, is $77.70 for single occupancy and 93.45 for double occupancy. Conference participants may contact the hotel directly by calling (301) 985-7310 or (800)727-8622. In order to receive the group discounted rate reservations must be made by October 27, 1995. The Government per diem rate for the Washington Metro area is $114/night for lodging and $38/day for meals. The suggested check-in time is 2:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 noon. A credit card number will be required to guarantee your room for a late arrival. If you need to cancel your reservation please contact the conference center 48 hours in advance of the expected day of arrival or you may be charged for one night's stay.

Jorge Scientific Corporation has reserved an additional block of rooms at the Holiday Inn -College Park, MD, which is located 2 miles from the University of Maryland Conference Center. The room rate including tax is $82.50, which includes a breakfast buffet. In order to receive the group discounted rate reservations must be made by October 27, 1995. A free shuttle service is available from the hotel to the Conference Center. Please reserve in advance directly with the hotel.

Some other hotels in the area are as follows.

Best Western (301) 474-2800, $69 plus tax, includes a full breakfast.

Courtyard by Marriott (301) 441-3311, $84 plus tax, or $89 (includes breakfast buffet).

RESTAURANT INFORMATION

The Conference Center has a cafeteria and a small full service restaurant to accommodate conference participants. The cost of these services is not included in the registration fee. The following restaurants are available at the indicated times in the Conference Center.
Mt. Clare Cafeteria - 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Garden Restaurant - 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
The nearest restaurants outside of the conference center are at least a mile away.

EXHIBIT SESSION

There will be a demonstration area that will be open during most of the conference. There is no charge for having a demonstration in the exhibit area, but space is limited and submission of an abstract describing the demonstration is necessary. The demonstration room will be open from Monday , November 6, 12:00 p.m. through Thursday, November 9, 12:00 p.m during regular conference hours.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

There will be a welcome reception and early registration at the Conference Center in the Chesapeake room the evening of Sunday, Nov. 5, from 6:00 to 9:00.

There will also be a conference dinner at the Newton White Mansion, not far from the conference center, Tuesday evening, November 7th. The cost for the dinner will be $ 25.

REGISTRATION

The registration desk will be open in the main concourse in the Conference Center by the Auditorium from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on November 5, 1995 as well as on the regular days of the conference.

The early registration fee for regular participants will be $ 200.00. The fee for registration after October 20, 1995 will be $ 225.00.
