Earth - Galileo
Mosaic of Antarctica from about 200,000 km
Mosaic of 40 Galileo images of Antarctica taken through the
red, green, and violet filters. The spacecraft was about
200,000 km past Earth after its first flyby when this picture
was taken. Antarctica is about 4000 km from top to bottom in
this view. The south pole is just left of center, the arc of
dark spots below the center is the Transantarctic Mountain Range.
Right of that is the Ross Ice Shelf. Also visible are the Pacific
(lower right), Indian (upper right), and Atlantic (upper left) oceans.
