Europa - Voyager 2

Western hemisphere of Jupiter's moon Europa from 225,000 km

Europa
Voyager 2 image of the Galilean satellite Europa taken from 225,000 km. The image is centered at 19 S, 170 W and shows much of Europa's western hemisphere. Note the smooth appearance, lack of obvious large craters, and linear features which criss-cross the surface, hinting at a complex tectonic history. These linear features are up to a hundred km across and cover much of the 3,120 km diameter body. The frame is about 1500 km across and North is at 11:30. (Voyager 2, 20650.22)
