Voyager 2 image of Uranus' southern hemisphere from
about 10 million km. This image was taken 8 days
before closest approach with the narrow angle camera
using the orange filter. The south pole, which was
facing the sun at the time of the Voyager 2 encounter,
is near the center of the disk. Uranus is 51,000 km
in diameter and has its axis of rotation nearly in its
orbital plane.
