Mars - Viking 2 Orbiter

Viking image of the Inca City feature on Mars

Mars
Viking 2 Orbiter image of an area near the south pole of Mars given the name Inca City. This semi-rectangular grid (at center-right) is probably the result of wind deflation of deposits revealing the underlying gridded terrain. The individual square cells are about 4 to 5 km across. An ice deposit can be seen at the upper left of the frame, which is to the south. North is at 4:00. (Viking Orbiter 421B64)
