Descent Image of Eros from 1.15 km

This image of the surface of main belt asteroid 433 Eros was taken from an altitude of 1.15 km during NEAR-Shoemaker's descent to the surface. The frame is 54 meters wide, the large rock at lower left is 7.4 meters across and appears to be resting on the surface, unlike many of the boulders that are partially buried. The spacecraft was passing across this scene from upper right to lower left as it descended. (NEAR Eros 0157416593)
