Neptune - Voyager 2

Orange filter image of the "Scooter" on Neptune from 3.3 million km

Neptune
The cloud feature known as the "Scooter" on Neptune as seen through the orange filter of Voyager 2's narrow angle camera. The Scooter is the bright area below the center of the image composed of narrow bands of clouds. The feature is centered at 42 S latitude and was visible throughout the 80 day encounter period, although it changed shape extensively during this time. This image was taken on 23 August 1989, 2 days before closest approach, from a distance of roughly 3.3 million km. The frame is about 24,500 km across and north is at 11:30. (Voyager 2, 11326.32)
