Neptune - Voyager 2

Neptune linear high clouds, green filter image

Neptune
Voyager 2 wide-angle image of high clouds in the northern hemisphere of Neptune. The clouds, approximately 27 N latitude, are near the terminator (at right). They are brightly lit on the sunward side and cast shadows on the cloud deck, roughly 50 to 150 km below. The image was acquired through the green filter over 3 hours before closest approach from a distance of about 215,000 km. The frame is roughly 12,000 km across and north is at 10:30.
