Neptune - Voyager 2

Neptune linear high clouds, orange filter image

Neptune
Voyager 2 image of high linear clouds on Neptune from 215,000 km. The clouds appear to rise 50 to 150 km above the surrounding cloud deck. The low sun angle (the terminator is at the right) causes the sun-facing side to be very bright, and clouds cast shadows on to the cloud deck. The clouds are centered at 27 N latitude. The image was taken through the orange filter of the wide-angle camera. The frame is roughly 12,000 km across and north is at 10:30. (Voyager 2, 11387.39)
