This data set contains high-resolution maps of the sky within 4.7 degrees of the Galactic plane, and of the Orion, Rho Oph, and Taurus-Auriga regions, in the 60 and 100 micron bands of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS). The maps, which have resolutions of 1'-2' were derived from special 'HIRES' processing of the IRAS data, which included destriping and zodiacal emission subtraction. The principal images included on the tapes are intensity maps for 1 and 20 iterations of HIRES processing. Also included are detector track and sky coverage maps, as well as maps illustrating the resolution of the images using simulated point sources. The latter have associated text files describing the resolution of the maps as a function of position. The maps of the plane are in Galactic coordinates; those of the higher-latitude regions are in equatorial coordinates. The first tape has documentation in ASCII and PostScipt formats, and C-language software for looking-up the filenames of maps covering a given region of the sky.
