This set of level I radiance data was supplied in the Miami format (NI7) by the CZCS Nimbus Experiment Team (NET) on 12-in., 3.2-gigabyte Sony WORM optical disks. It contains earth-located raw radiance counts that were measured at six spectral bands (0.43, 0.52, 0.67, 0.75, and 10.5-12.5 micrometers). The radiances are grouped in 66,000 2-min scenes (12.5 megabytes/scene), each of which has a swath width of approximately 1600 km and a spatial resolution of approximately 1 km. Calibration data are available in the data record for conversion of counts into engineering units. A temperature conversion table is also available in the documentation record for the derivation of emitted thermal radiance sensed in the thermal IR. More information on the data files can be found in the "Nimbus 7 Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS) Level I Data Product Users' Guide," NASA Technical Memorandum 86203 (TRF B38852). The data files on the optical disks may be converted to the standard NASA CRTT (Calibrated Radiances and Temperature Tapes) on magnetic media, using a computer program provided by the University of Miami. Because of the volume of this data set, users are urged to use the online browse facility to view the level II images and/or metadata to narrow their selections.
