This ERBE S-9 product combines measurements from the ERBS and NOAA 9 spacecraft and contains the mean estimates of shortwave and longwave radiant exitance at the top-of-the-atmosphere, statistics of these estimates, and information on cloud conditions. The S-9 product consists of scanner data collected in a 32 x 25 matrix for each 2.5 degree region. A given region is viewed by the scanner several times as the spacecraft passes overhead. The data set contains measurements for the day-hour, daily averages, monthly-hourly averages and monthly averages. The daily a verages are determined by applying diurnal models to the data. Scanner data for clear-sky areas are identified. The data is archived on an Aquidneck optical disk. This data set is identical with NSSDC ID 84-123A-05J. As of January 1993, the data set is archived and distributed through the EOSDIS DAAC at NASA/Langley Research Center (LaRC DAAC) (804-864-8656).
