SDDPT Mariner 9 Engineering Experiment Data Records

NSSDCA ID: PSNO-00010

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

Description

This data set contains the Mariner 9 Engineering Experiment Data Records (EDRs). These data were originally contained on 83 7-track magnetic tapes. They have been copied directly to CD-WO by NASA's Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT) at JPL.

The 7-track data was padded from 6 bit characters to 8 bits by placing zeroes into the 2 high order bits. The file ENG_INFO.TXT located on each CD, correlates the tape ID with the corresponding CD Volume and descriptions of the tapes' contents. The discs are formatted according to the ISO 9660 level 1 Interchange Standard, and file attributes are specified by Extended Attribute Records (XARs).

This data set was created at JPL as part of its Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT), and a copy was provided to NSSDC for safekeeping. Numerous SDDPT data sets are not readily usable, as they represent bit copies of old data tapes and do not contain user documentation. Persons interested in ordering these data should contact the NSSDC person listed for this data set.

This is SDDPT data set code 71-051A-0014, volume IDs M71_1101 - M71_1102 .
