This data set contains radiometrically corrected archive images of Jupiter and Saturn in VICAR format taken by both Voyager 1 and 2 and copied from magnetic tapes onto CD-WO as part of the Science Digital Data Preservation Task. Each volume in the set includes ancillary information in addition to instrument data. The data were copied from a collection of tapes that, in most cases, were at least 15-20 years old. Each CD has been formatted so that a variety of computer systems (e.g. IBM PC, Macintosh, Sun, VAX) may access the data. Specifically, the discs are formatted according to the ISO 9660 level 1 Interchange Standard, and file attributes are specified by Extended Attribute Records (XARs).
This data set was created at JPL as part of its Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT), and a copy was provided to NSSDC for safekeeping. Numerous SDDPT data sets are not readily usable, as they represent bit copies of old data tapes and do not contain user documentation. In general, these data are stored at NSSDC for archive, not distribution, purposes. The data are not always in a readily accessible form. In order to request this data, please talk to the NSSDC contact person listed for this data set.
This is SDDPT data set code 77-084A-0073, volume IDs VGR_2001 through VGR_2099 and volume IDs VGR_2201 through VGR_2208.
