Lunar Sequential Photography from Zond 8

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

This data set is composed bo a few photographic prints from the USSR spacecraft Zond 8. They are mostly of the Mare Orientale and its environs. They are a sequential series taken on October 24, 1970, during the approach stage and show the surface from 20 deg W longitude to 160 deg W longitude. The best resolution (at the center of the photos) ranges from about 100 to 500 m. A photometric scale was placed in the lower portion of each photo during printing for calibrating light intensities of the image. The large cross, denoting the senter of the frame, and the small crosses grid were imprinted on the lens for measurement purposes. The photos appear to be cropped portions of the frames listed in the supplied index, and only a fraction of the indexed frames are represented by photos. NSSDC has generated its own index using an accession number which identifies features and U.S. selenographic coordinates. The photos should be requested by the NSSDC-generated index accession number.
