Selenocentric Geodetic Reference System, Final Report

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

Time span: 1972-12-07 to 1972-12-15

This data set is composed of (1) the final report of experiment S-213 (selenocentric geodetic reference system) for the Apollo missions 15, 16, and 17, based on data from the mapping camera system, (mounted in the simbay) and (2) terrain and exposure station position tables. The terrain positions were derived from photogrammetric techniques using the mapping camera photographs, altimeter data, and stellar camera attitude data for lunar surface terrain positions, and the exposure station points were obtained from tracking data. The procedures used are described in the text. Accompanying the text documentation are the tabulated positions for the selenodetic reference system. Appendix A lists the terrain point positions, and appendix B lists the exposure station positions. The terrain points (appendix A) are organized by map sheets and tabular data columns given are -- (1) point number, (2) Cartesian X, Y, Z positions and their standard deviations, (3) spherical position as latitude, longitude, and radial, with their standard deviations. The same parameters are listed for the exposure stations (appendix B) but there are no maps.
