Surface Electrical Property Data Plots and Final Technical Reports (Digitized)

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

This collection consists of digitized data plots and the final three-part technical report on the surface electrical properties (SEP) experiment. It describes the system used in: (1) processing the data; (2) obtaining digitized data from the analog tape provided on the moon; (3) demultiplexing processing; (4) merging of navigation and science data; (5) procedures used to generate the plots; (6) comparison with very long based interferometry (VLBI); and, (7) reconstruction of the SEP antenna patterns during the 360-deg turn around on EP 4. The plots are frequency versus range in wavelength and range in meters.

For this digitization effort the NSSDCA scanned the source microfiche (PSPG-00485) at a resolution of 400 dots per inch and output one TIFF image file for each frame on the microfiche. The NSSDCA also combined groups of these TIFF files multipage PDF files to facilitate browsing. Both formats are included in this collection.

Also available from the NSSDCA is the demultiplexed data from the Apollo 17 SEP experiment (PSPG-00559). The data and final technical reports from this digitized collection are critical in reading and restoring the demultiplexed data. These data are believed to be the complete set taken by the SEP in December 1972.
