This collection consists of digitized microfilm frames containing selected large meteoroid impact playouts (type C events) recorded by at least 2 stations of the Passive Seismic Experiment (PSE) network with compressed scale amplitudes of 10 millimeters or larger. The absolute value of the difference between consecutive data points is summed over 40 points for long period data (320 points for short period data), and this value is plotted yielding one value for each 6 seconds of data. Consecutive points are plotted with opposite polarity to yield a line with the appearance of a seismogram. Components are arranged LPX, LPY, LPZ, SPZ, with long-period (LP) X at the top and short-period (SP) Z at the bottom. Time ticks are displayed every 10 minutes and each hour (universal time, UT) is labeled. The year and day are displayed every 6 hours. These plots are used to determine start and stop times of the selected seismic events.
For this digitization effort the NSSDCA scanned the source microfilm collections PSPG-00020, PSPG-00151, PSPG-00337, and PSPG-00674 (all are on the same, single reel) at a resolution of 400 dots per inch and output each frame on the film as one TIFF file. The NSSDCA also combined the TIFF images into a multipage PDF file to facilitate browsing. Both formats are included in this collection.
