VLF Electron Spectrum Analyzer Data

Availability: Archived at NSSDC, accessible from elsewhere

Time span: 1977-11-03 to 1983-06-28

This data set is proprietary and not for distribution. It is submitted by experimenters to NSSDC for the purpose of the Coordinated Data Analysis Workshops (CDAW). The data sets submitted for CDAW are usually small, and the time coverage is usually scanty within the time span indicated. However, this data set (or part of it) may be provided to the general science community through an online data set in CDF format. For more detailed description, as well as access information, please contact the NSSDC Request Coordination Office at

These experimenter-supplied, electric spectrum analyzer data are on binary magnetic tape created on a Univac 418 computer. The data are the electric field intensity in 20 narrow-band channels from 5.6 Hz to 311 kHz. Each logical record consists of 24 Univac 18-bit words. These words are year of data, day of year, seconds of day, logical record number, and one word each for the 20 channels of electric spectrum analyzer data. This data set was submitted for inputs to Coordinated Data Analysis Workshops and consequently only contains discrete periods during the time interval covered.
