The Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment (DIRBE) Time-Ordered Data (TOD) product includes calibrated sky brightness values and is the most complete public record of the DIRBE observations. It is necessary to understand the operating modes of the instrument and to recognize various COBE mission events in order to select and interpret the data of interest; thorough familiarity with information contained in the DIRBE Explanatory Supplement is recommended. The TOD product is not intended for heavy use by the research community, although there may be some applications, such as correlative studies of transient events, for which this product is necessary. The DIRBE TOD are in 41 190 MB files, each covering one week between 11 December 1989 and 21 September 1990.
This collection differs from an earlier-archived collection (ASIR-00063) in that these files are from a later processing run in which improvements to the photometric quality of the science data were made. The most notable change in these data is a 5% decrease in the 1.25-12 micrometer absolutely calibrated photometry as compared to the earlier data, but other improvements were included as well which improved the photometric stability and quality in all bands.
