SDDPT Mariner 10 Celestial Mechanics/Radio Science Experiment Data Records

NSSDCA ID: PSCM-00009

Availability: At NSSDC, Ready for Offline Distribution (or Staging if Digital)

Ancillary data are not needed for the proper use of these data

Description

This data set contains Mariner 10 Celestial Mechanics / Radio Science Engineering Data Records (EDRs). These data are X- (8400 MHz) and S- (2113 MHz) band radio transmissions for use in tracking and occultation studies. The data were originally contained on 762 7-track tapes. They were copied directly to CD-WO by NASA's Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT) at JPL. The 6 bit characters were padded to 8 bits by placing zeroes into the 2 high order bits.

The file CMR_INFO.TXT is located on each CD in the series. It correlates the tape ID with available descriptions of the tapes' contents and the tracks. The discs are formatted according to the ISO 9660 level 1 Interchange Standard, and file attributes are specified by Extended Attribute Records (XARs).

This data set was created at JPL as part of its Science Digital Data Preservation Task (SDDPT), and a copy was provided to NSSDC for safekeeping. Numerous SDDPT data sets are not readily usable, as they represent bit copies of old data tapes and do not contain user documentation. Persons interested in ordering these data should contact the NSSDC person listed for this data set.

This is SDDPT data set code 73-085A-0008, volume IDs MVM_1001 - MVM_1007 .
